Berlin has a large number of existing protected buildings that have their roots beginning with the 19th century up to the years of 1950 and 1960. The 20 level Telefunken multi-story building is reconstructed in the year 1959 on the basis of the city development conception concerning the postwar fallow land around the Ernst-Reuter-Platz that has been planned by Schwebes+Schoszberger.

The integration of modern building and media-technological equipment are needed because of the up-to-date industrial usage and universal maintenance and repair measures. Several levels needed to be expanded for the research institute of the Technische Universität Berlin to meet the requirements of a technical university - accompanied by restoration and fire-protection measures. Joint ventures with Telekom, Daimler Chrysler or Siemens stand for the tight connection between scientists, the industry and the research activities of the Technische Universität Berlin. FISSLER ERNST ARCHITEKTEN planned and coordinated the conversion of the levels 13 to 17 into office rooms and the level 21 into a conference room as well as a cafeteria. Furthermore, a firemen's lift and a fine-spray extinguishing system have been integrated into the building.
